Founded in 1631 by Dutch settlers, the first town in the first state was originally known as Zwaanendael. As one of the northern most cities in coastal Delaware, Lewes is both a charming small town with a rich maratime history as well as a beach destination and vacation spot. Downtown Lewes has over 40 shops to choose from in addition to numerous fine restaurants, historical 18th & 19th century homes, historical sights and museums. The ouskirts of the town include peaceful state parks and a wildlife sanctuary. Lewes is a wonderful place to move to and relax year-round.
