What to Know about the Quiet Resorts
The Quiet Resorts is made up of both inland and oceanfront towns. Some locations you may have heard of before, while others are more of a hidden gem. To help you decide which town to call home, our local team has put together a little cheatsheet of five towns.
Bethany Beach
Found between the bay and the Atlantic Ocean rests Bethany Beach, which was founded in 1901. This is perhaps one of the most popular towns in this region, and it’s not hard to see why. Spend time soaking in the sunshine on the free public beaches, or wander the shops that line Garfield Parkway.
Fenwick Island
Fenwick Island is known for its easy going atmosphere. This is the most southeastern of the beaches and is home to plenty of shoreline. Head out on the bay kayaking, windsurfing, or crabbing. Learn a little about the town’s past by visiting the Fenwick Lighthouse.
Ocean View
Ocean View started as a 500-acre tract of land in 1688 and steadily grew in popularity before being incorporated in 1899. There are several incredible trails that take visitors and locals through stunning scenery, including the Assawoman Canal Trail. Another popular pastime here is playing bocce ball at the public courts.
Middlesex Beach
Located near Bethany Beach is Middlesex Beach, a private beach community. This town is close to larger towns but provides those renting homes here a sense of tranquility. The private, guarded beach is the perfect spot to fly a kite or enjoy a picnic lunch.
South Bethany
While it’s one town, South Bethany has two different vibes depending on which side of Route 1 you’re on. The bayside features canals leading to Little Assawoman Bay, known for being a prime watersport spot. The ocean side is home to Ocean Drive, which runs parallel to the beach and is an excellent spot for running and biking.
