Sneak in Some Learning at Museums in Delaware

For kids across the country, summer is the perfect time to put away the books and take a break from schoolwork. However, if you’re planning a family vacation to the Bethany Beach area with Wilgus Associates, that doesn’t mean you can’t sneak in a bit of learning. Maybe your kids learn to boogie board for the first time, or you help them explore a new type of ecosystem at a state park. An easy way to help them broaden their horizons is by visiting some of the local museums in Delaware.

A Guide to Area Museums to Explore

One of the best things about the museums in our region of Delaware is the variety of topics they cover. Leaving room in your itinerary to visit one or two of these attractions is an easy way to learn more about this area’s past.

  1. Tucked away in one of the oldest homes in Bethany Beach is the Bethany Beach Dinker-Irvin Museum. The restored cottage, which once served as a post office, gives visitors a look at what life was like during the town’s early days.
  2. Open seasonally, the DiscoverSea Shipwreck Museum is one of the most popular attractions in the area. The museum changes its exhibits frequently, so there’s always something new to see.
  3. Make your way to Ocean View to wander the Historic Village in Ocean View. This collection of buildings helps illustrate life in Baltimore Hundred and southern Delaware. In addition to artifacts, this unique attraction is also known to host public events, tours, and re-enactments.
  4. Located in nearby Rehoboth Beach, the Indian River Life-Saving Station Museum has been restored to its 1905 appearance. The United States Lifesaving Service created the station in 1876.
  5. North of Bethany Beach in Lewes is the Fort Miles Historical Museum and Historical Area. The first was constructed in the earthly days of WWII as a deterrent to German attacks.
